Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep grief over the deaths of 10 Bangladeshi nationals in two separate incidents in Kolkata, India, and East London in the United Kingdom.
Party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar expressed the condolences in a statement sent to media Wednesday, August 19.
In the statement, he said: “I express my deep grief over the tragic deaths of at least nine Bangladeshi nationals, including a child, and the injuries suffered by several others in a fire that broke out around 2:00 a.m. last night at a residential hotel on Free School Street in the New Market area of Kolkata.”
Golam Parwar said it was extremely heartbreaking and painful that fellow citizens traveling to India for medical treatment and other needs had died in such a devastating accident.
Separately, a young Bangladeshi man, Masum Mia, 40, was shot dead by criminals in East London, United Kingdom, on August 17.
He said: “I pray for the forgiveness of the departed souls and extend my deepest sympathy to the families of the injured and deceased. I pray to the Almighty that he grants the relatives of the deceased the strength to bear this irreparable loss and grief.”
He further said: “I wish a swift recovery to those who were burned or seriously injured in the accident. At the same time, I strongly urge the Bangladesh mission in India and the relevant authorities to make proper arrangements for the swift and dignified repatriation of the deceased’s bodies, and to ensure proper treatment for the injured.”
