DHAKA, Sept. 26 — Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has sharply condemned vandalism and looting at a health service center in Mirpur-1 in the capital. He made the remarks Saturday in a post on his Facebook page.
In the post, he wrote that the Radda MCH-FP Center in Mirpur-1 was vandalized and looted around midnight. More than two hundred masked people carrying local weapons looted the center and then demolished it, he said.
Rahman said the heat of power had now fallen on a health service center. He said the center was demolished under cover of darkness and a mysterious signboard was put up there.
“Where is the administration, where are the law enforcement agencies?” he said. “It is no longer unclear who is behind this. Their appetite is not being satisfied in any way. They have destroyed this opportunity for people to receive health care.”
The Jamaat chief said the government was pledging to bring health care to people’s doorsteps while, at the same time, “this game” was continuing. He called for the perpetrators to be identified and brought under strict punishment, warning that otherwise they would one day face punishment at the hands of the people.
