DHAKA — Bangladesh’s headline inflation rose to 9.04% in April from 8.71% in March, as Middle East tensions and global uncertainty pushed domestic prices higher, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday.
Year-on-year inflation eased slightly, but the month-on-month figures showed renewed pressure on consumer spending, according to the latest report from the agency, known as BBS.
Food inflation rose to 8.39% in April from 8.24% in March, the bureau said. Analysts said the increase added to pressure on buyers of essential goods.
Non-food inflation also climbed, rising to 9.57% from 9.09% in March. Higher house rent, fuel and transport costs were the main drivers, the report said.
For comparison, headline inflation stood at 9.17% in April last year, with food inflation at 8.63% and non-food inflation at 9.61%.
