Dhaka University has reduced the email verification fee by $10 for students interested in pursuing higher education abroad. Under a decision by the university’s syndicate, students will now have to pay $40 per person for this service.

The information was announced in a notice signed by acting registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed on Wednesday (July 8). The email verification fee was previously $50 per person. In March, Zinia Tasnim, a graduate of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, alleged that Dhaka University demanded payment from Sweden’s central admissions authority for verification of her academic documents. Sweden’s central admissions authority subsequently refused to pay, leaving her application to a Swedish university incomplete. When the matter became public, the university administration faced criticism, and students demanded the email verification fee be made completely free. Rather than eliminating the fee entirely, the university administration decided to reduce it by $10.
