Fortis FC reached the AFC Challenge League group stage by beating Kyrgyzstan’s Muras United 1-0 at Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka.

Mohammad Ibrahim scored the winning goal as Fortis made history in its first appearance in an international competition. Fortis finished third in the latest Bangladesh Football League season and entered the competition because FIFA sanctions prevented champions Bashundhara Kings and runners-up Dhaka Abahani from participating.

Muras created pressure after halftime, but Fortis goalkeeper Sujon Perera made two saves to protect the score. Ibrahim scored in the 52nd minute from a through ball by Pa Omar Babu, controlling the ball with his right foot before finishing low with his left.

Muras missed a chance to equalize in the 74th minute when Atabayev Erbol’s penalty struck the post after a handball decision against Eric Bista.

Fortis held on to win 1-0 and eliminate Muras, which had advanced past Dhaka Abahani in the previous season’s preliminary round.
