A young man accused of hacking farmer Mansur Molla, 45, to death in Kadamtala village of Perli union in Kalia upazila, Narail, after an allegation related to obstructing drug use has surrendered to police. The accused, Hasib Molla, 20, went to the police station and surrendered.
He surrendered at Kalia Police Station on Monday morning, Sept. 28. Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Idris Ali confirmed the matter.
Hasib is the son of Lipton Molla of Kadamtala village.
The OC said Hasib had surrendered at the police station. No case had been filed as of Monday noon. He claimed the killing occurred over a previous land-related dispute.
Meanwhile, members of the victim’s family and local residents said Hasib had an argument last Friday with UP member Kased Molla of Ward 4 of Narail’s Perli union after Kased objected to drug use. At one stage, Hasib allegedly punched Kased.
Then around 10 p.m. Saturday, Hasib went to a shop at Kadamtala Tri-Mohona intersection. At that time, Mansur, Kased’s cousin, and Nur Islam asked Hasib why he had assaulted Kased. Hasib suddenly took out a sharp weapon and began hacking Mansur and Nur. Mansur, who was critically injured, died near Jamrildanga football field while being taken to Khulna. Nur received first aid.
UP member Kased said Hasib had long been addicted to drugs. He said Hasib assaulted him after being told not to use drugs, and then stabbed Mansur and Nur Islam, causing casualties. Kased said they had no previous dispute with Hasib.
