Police arrested eight people, including three leaders of the banned Awami League and Chhatra League, in separate raids in different areas of Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga.
The raids were conducted from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, after beginning late Sunday, Sept. 27.
The arrested people are Awami League leader Obaidul Islam, 54, son of late Ismail Mondal of Sutia village; Awami League leader Sazzad Biswas, 56, son of Ohab Ali of Balihuda village; Chhatra League leader Sajeduzzaman Dip, 24, son of Asaduzzaman of Mahanagar Uttarpara in Jibannagar town; Sabbir Hossain, 23, son of Faruk Hossain of Manoharpur village; Nur Hossain, 42, son of Hamid Bepari of Korchadanga village; his brother Amin Hossain, 55; Rokon Mia, 45; and Mojibar, 42.
Police sources said separate police teams led by Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sulaiman Sheikh conducted raids in different places Sunday night based on confidential information and arrested them.
Sulaiman Sheikh confirmed the incident and said arrested Omedul Islam and Sazzad Biswas are Awami League leaders and Sajeduzzaman Dip is a Chhatra League leader. Cases under the Explosives Act are filed against them at the police station. The arrested accused were sent to a Chuadanga court around 11:30 a.m.
